yeah it turns out to be just the die-back from the tip pruning of junipers. i realise its normal for them to do this…and then later on when they are dry u can pull them off etc.
thats why ive started not to like junipers now days cause of this. and they have lots of die back if not pruned regularly.

eeiko…. from bonsaitalk?
There are a couple different reasons the needles could be yellow, Either it is winter where you are and it is winter color. Even evergreens can change color in winter. Or the needles have been cut recently and are dieing back a little to help with the trees Vigor. If the tree is dried to where you touch it and the needles fall off, the tree is dead or near dead, prune off All dead needles and do not do any work further to the tree as it could be a finished bonsai!

It is possible, but …
It is possible, but QUITE complicated and takes a LONG time. Just before the winter you should strip a one inch wide ring of a branch down to half the width of the branch and wrap a bag around the wound, full of fertile soil, and root-growth promoting agent. No touchy for a year. Next year, roots should have grown out of the would. You can saw it off at it’s base and pot that. It’s survival chance isn’t great, but it can.
could you use a …
could you use a branch of a tree to make a bonsai? i am wondering because i have an apple tree in my back yard, and also there are lots of oaks growing near me, i was wondering if i could just cut off a nice branch, sort of like a house plant, and if so how do you get that fat aged trunk look at the base of the bonsai? ~~thanks~~

good video and yes you can prune them very harshly but i woul never prune and repot so close together.
It can be ok to cut …
It can be ok to cut off quite a lot, but it really depends on a variety of factors. The health, the type of tree, and the time of year should be considered. Some trees respond much better to a drastic pruning than others, and there should be a good length of time in the growing season (i.e. before winter starts) for the tree to heal.

Interesting. I’m no expert, but it is really OK to cut so much off of the tree when pruning?
